Spring Player Uniform Contest

Spring League is continuing with the tradition of a uniform contest. Each player and Coach is given a white t-shirt with our AYSO logo. Each division from 6U to 10U can participate. 12U, 14U and 16/19U are encouraged to decorate uniforms, but they are not part of the contest. Teams will be judged by the Spring League Board. Each Division will have one winner. The prize is a pizza party for the coach and players. There are prizes for honorable mentions. The three best overall teams uniform will win a bigger prize.

Guidelines.

1. Players first or last name shall not be on the uniform. This is for child safety.
2. Teams must use the AYSO t-shirt provided.
3. Any add-ons to the uniform should be safe for all players, for example no capes or studs that could hurt the players.
4. Uniforms colors do not have to match the socks.
5. Uniforms do not a have to be tie dyed.
6. Send a photo(s) of your team to [email protected] by April 2, 2018.
7. Winners to be posted by April 7, 2018.
8. Be creative and have fun.

Below is some instructions on how to tie dye t-shirts

Advice from a Champion and Award Winning T-Shirt Designer

My advice on decorating your tee shirt is get your idea, watch a how-to video on it, and then use an old white t-shirt to practice. Ask yourself: Did the technique work? Can you duplicate it for the whole team? For fun, make the coach and assistant coach a matching tee.
When I first tie-dyed, I was told Jacquard dye is the best. If you want “bright”, go with that one. It’s pricier, but color holds. This link shows basic and more advanced techniques.

If you don’t sew, but want to add a small detail, try heat n bond (remember to wash in cold and line dry).

If you want some areas to stay white, try a resist.

You can also use your printer and Jolee’s easy image transfer paper (or similar product) to iron-on an image to your tee. I’d recommend a small image. Over time, the color comes off too. Cold wash and line dry would probably help it last through the season.

You can find plenty of instructional videos on YouTube and a wealth of information by a quick online search. Be creative and have fun. If it’s frustrating, STOP! Try again later.
