Camarillo AYSO Soccer

Referee Classes and Certification

Thank you for stepping up to be a referee and support our kids for our 2023 Season!
Simply, without referees, the kids cannot play soccer. We promise to make it fun and guarantee you will have the best seat in the house to watch a game.

Referees must Register as a Volunteer, be LiveScan fingerprinted, complete AYSO's Safe Haven, CDC Concussion Course, SafeSport and Sudden Cardiac Arrest training, and for new referees be trained in order to sign up for games on our online scheduler (CGI).  See below for the details on all these courses. If you have not completed all of these by August 30, 2023, you will be removed from CGI access until completed.

Youth Referees

You do not have to be an adult to be an AYSO referee!  Region 68 prides itself on having a vibrant youth referee program and one of the best such programs in all of AYSO.  Ages 12 and up can become AYSO youth referees.

Youth referees must still register as AYSO volunteers, but they are not subject to the same background verifications as adults.  All other requirements are the same for our youth referees and adult referees.  Youth referees must:
  • Complete Safe Haven training
  • Complete CDC Consussion Training
  • Complete Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training
  • Be LiveScan Fingerprinted (Adult Volunteers Only)
  • Complete SafeSport Training (Adult Volunteers Only)
  • Complete either the U8 or Regional Referee Courses
Please see other areas on this page for directions on how to complete each of these courses.

Region 68 provides mentoring to our youth referees and enforces a zero tolerance policy for any verbal abuse or harassment of our youth referees.  We ensure that the youth refereeing experience is safe and fun just like we ensure that our players are playing in a safe and fun environment.

If you have any questions about our youth referee program, please contact our Referee Administrator Keith Fichtelman ([email protected]) or our youth referee program coordinator Susan McDonough ([email protected]) with any questions.

You will receive an e-mail from the American Youth Soccer Organization after you register with a secure link for you to complete a background check. Please know the e-mail will state there is a $25 fee, but Camarillo AYSO is paying that fee.

First responders (State-local-federal Police, Fire, EMT, Medical personnel, and prison staff) and active military personnel, please fill out as much information as possible when completing your volunteer registration in regard to your occupation and employer as well as in your background check information because of the State & Federal laws protecting the privacy of your protected class from third party background/personal information check.

New Referees must complete an in-person ID check so we can verify who you are. This check can be done at AYSO Office hours or any of the AYSO classes at headquarters.
